Move over Aerosmith: Kingston 530 Just Landed

A New Band Is Rocking Bean Town

Huge talent has always spawned from Boston’s muddy waters. Take Aerosmith, Boston (the rock group popular in the 80′s) not to mention movie star, Ben Affleck (just to name a few). Kingston 530 originated in RI, but this band can be added to the “Boston’s Got Talent” list.

When Chris Ferrara, the lead vocal, and Kevin Sullivan, acoustic guitar player, met in 2003 at the University of RI as baby- faced- freshmen, they began song writing and performing around their URI campus. Today they continue to collaborate and create most of the songs for the band’s sets. Will  Sibilia is the talented drummer who also sings; Ben Caccia plays lead guitar and sings vocals; and Shaun  O’Loughlin is the bass/harmonica/vocals. They most recently wowed a large crowd at Pine Hills Concerts On the Green, on September 11th, opening for the Gin Blossoms. They received a loud standing ovation before leaving the stage.

Their huge talent and lively-fun stage presence is only one reason for their mass appeal. They were just named the winners of the 2010 Boston Music Spotlight Battle of the Bands, finishing top 3 in the nation at Hard Rock Cafe’s Ambassadors of Rock Battle of the Bands competition. The Boston Globe named them “one of Boston’s hottest bands”, and they are Ambassadors for the Music Drives Us Foundation, geared towards keeping music in schools. Despite their busy schedule, they are making a difference in their local community by helping out school kids through this program.

Their music is intelligent, evokes emotion and sends clear messages that people can relate to. “Pillow Talk” is a slow love ballad that will make even the most bitter romantically challenged skeptic believe in fairy tale love.”Carry On” is unique, describing harsh realities people are facing in today’s present economy. Ferrara and Sullivan wrote “Carry On” and when I interviewed Ferrara after the Pine Hills Concert, I asked him what had inspired him and Sully to write the song. Here’s his response:

People are either losing their jobs or working multiple jobs just to get by. Homes are being foreclosed. Families are being devastated. All the while, everyone is looking for a scapegoat and trying to place the blame on somebody. The way we see it, it’s up to you to make your own moves in order to make your life better. Is it hard? Yes. But if you grow complacent with pointing the finger, you’ll get stuck in the rut you have created for yourself.”

The men who make Kingston 530 (not in order): Chris Ferrara, Kevin Sullivan, Will Sibilia, Ben Caccia,Shaun O'Loughlin

Kingston 530 will be launching a temporary website at Kingston530.com later this week and an official website should be complete by mid winter.
Their new CD is expected to come out by late spring/early summer of 2011. Presently, the (tentative) title for their debut CD is Long Time Comin’. The demo will be available soon on their website to download free. Their song, “95″, tends to be the crowd favorite and very well may be the first song released. However, “Carry On” and “Long Time Comin’” are still in the running.
If you’re lucky enough to live in the RI area, Kingston 530 will be performing on September 17th at The Wheelhouse Tavern in Narragansett, RI :: 9:00pm-12:00pm and on October 15th at Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel in Providence, RI :: 8:00pm
You’ll be hearing them over the airwaves soon and they’re Boston’s favorite band to watch.
